The more short stories I read, the more amazing authors I find. Kelly Link is incredible. She’s whimsical and poignant and I’m going to buy Magic for Beginners as soon as I get a little more money.

…that doesn’t even make sense, does it?
Doesn’t matter.
Last week I workshopped a new story in my fiction class. It’s a surreal piece inspired by Aimee Bender, a new favorite writer of mine who has contributed to this remarkable genre in which impossible things are treated as reality. If you do, unicorns will come out of your computer screen and give you a ride to work/school…maybe.
Thanks friends :)

Downtown La Mesa
goes to sleep at 10 o’clock sharp. Lo and I just walked the strip hoping to find some food, and the whole city is SHUT DOWN. I understand that La Mesa is a retirement community, but still, if you’re going to call this place “The Village” you should keep SOMETHING open until 11. Or even 10:30, at least give me 10:30!
Oh well, Dino Nuggets it is.

Cook-tastrophe.
Have you ever tried to cook something incredibly simple…and the oil pops on your arm and spills onto the stove, and the garlic’s burning and there’s smoke spilling out the window and the eggplant tastes like wet sock? And so you have these noodles with nothing to put on them so you decide to make impromptu mac ‘n cheese, but you randomly put too much of the wrong cheese and...

Still one of my favorite SNL sketches of all time. Marry me, Maya Rudolph.
I swear to you, I had this girl in my class last semester.
